THE GIFT OF TREES
Haiti has suffered for decades from uncontrolled environmental degradation, which has resulted in severe rates of soil erosion, cyclone impact, tree cover loss, and species' stress. AMURT-Haiti has consistently followed a development strategy of environmental restoration in the area of Anse Rouge through community empowerment and education. This boy is a tree steward who regularly engages in volunteer tree planting and soil conservation days which AMURT organizes in the area. Since 2004 more than 280,000 tree seedlings have left the 8 community managed tree nurseries supported by the NGO, helping green 8 protected watersheds and hundreds of private yards.
