Leadership and Capacity Building

Building Bridges AMURT-Haiti is actively engaged in building the capacities of the local communities, particularly women and youth, to participate in the process of development. A recent report of CIDA praised the NGO for its “commitment to the cause of non-violence and peaceful conflict resolution resulting in a substantial decrease in social tension and general delinquency in the entire Commune of Anse Rouge”. This girl is one of those whom AMURT is helping build as a leader through its education leadership program. Connecting with the sun

The problem of energy is felt even more acutely in poor countries like Haiti, where the low standard of life and the lack of proper education and support systems has forced most people to become unconscious participants in a self-perpetuating cycle of environmental degradation. Environment

Haiti has suffered for decades from uncontrolled environmental degradation, which has resulted in severe rates of soil erosion, cyclone impact, tree cover loss, and species’ stress. Since 2004 more than 1 million tree seedlings and 50 million seeds have left the 3 community managed tree nurseries supported by the NGO, helping protect 12 selected watersheds and hundreds of private yards. . . . → Read More: Environment

The educational programs of AMURT-Haiti have been consistently evaluated by both grant institutions and the people they serve as innovative and well positioned to impart long positive and far reaching results within the local communities. These students in the AMURT-supported school in Port-au-Prince receive stipends and free lunch, and can explore learning through dance, art, yoga, and other “creativity” programs. The following mid-term results relate to AMURT-Haiti’s educational initiatives: * Successfully founded and . . . → Read More: Education

Water is Life!

While the challenges in front of the communities are still very high, with the help of AMURT-Haiti’s infrastructure program and the support of partners such as CIDA, USAID, and CRS, more than 45 villages in the area have found new reservoirs, fountains, irrigation canals, bathing facilities and roads. This boy is one of many coming regularly to enjoy the newly built water park in the . . . → Read More: Water
